How to find a contract manufacturer

A contract manufacturer, also known as a “coman,” is a manufacturing facility that makes multiple products for multiple brands on a contractual basis. (That’s a bit different from a “contract packer” or “copacker,” who’s responsible for packaging, though you’ll sometimes see the terms used interchangeably.) Most food and beverage companies—even big ones!—use a coman partner to make their products, because it’s so much easier and more cost-effective than building a dedicated production facility.

But while the benefits of outsourcing are many, finding the right partner is no easy feat. There are thousands of comans out there, but very few that have the right equipment, capabilities, and expertise for your specific product.
