On a cool, drizzling rain May morning in Michigan, six JPG Resources team members donned their sweatshirts, hats, natural bug repellent and gloves to…rid the world of wild garlic mustard!

What is wild garlic mustard? (We had to ask too!)

Wild Garlic Mustard

  • Fact 1: Each plant can house up to 100,000 seeds, making the growth prolific and quick.
  • Fact 2: The WGM plant drains the soil of its nutrients making it difficult or impossible for other plants to grow…think trees and wildflowers. WGM can also negatively impact the habitat of nearby wildlife.
  • For Facts 3, 4, 5… http://na.fs.fed.us/spfo/invasiveplants/factsheets/pdf/garlic-mustard.pdf

For three hours, the JPG Resources crew laughed, breathed the fresh cool air and pulled this invasive species out of the rain-soaked ground at a nature preserve near Hastings, Michigan. Then we gathered for lunch to celebrate our hard work and each other.
